Over 700 to be affected by scheduled power outage in Jefferson Co.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Over 700 people in Jefferson County will be without power Tuesday morning for about an hour, according to a Penelec spokesperson.
Penelec says the power outage, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 10 a.m., will primarily affect Sykesville, some customers in Luthersburg and those outside of DuBois, but not the city of DuBois.
According to Penelec, crews will be working on a substation in Sykesville and changing fuses to prevent further outages.

Teen's death caused by nitrous oxide while inhaling 'whip-its'; ruled accidental
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — The Centre County coroner has released the final results of an autopsy following the death of a 17-year-old boy in State College.
According to a news release, John "Jack" Schoenig died of chemical asphyxia from inhaling nitrous oxide. Schoenig died Oct. 19 whilevisiting the State College area. State College police responded to home along West College Avenue sometime around 9:30 p.m. for reports of an unconscious person.

Boy, 5, hit by CamTran bus has multiple injuries, may need surgery
JOHNSTOWN – A 5-year-old boy was hit by a CamTran bus Wednesday while riding his bike in the Moxham section of the city.
Police said the accident occurred at the intersection of Jacob Street and Cypress Avenue. The child was riding his bike when he darted out of an alley into the path of the bus.
Police said he was alert when first responders arrived.
The child was taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC with serious injuries.

ELK COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down Tuesday in Elk County as severe storms moved through the region.
The tornado touched down just before 3 p.m. northwest of Weedville and damaged several trees, the NWS says.
Weather officials say pictures show tree damage concentrated along a narrow path along Old Byrnedale Road and Route 255.

Man convicted in deadly Rush Township stabbing sentenced to over two decades in prison
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Philipsburg man who was convicted this summer in a deadly stabbing incident in Rush Township has been sentenced.
Fernando Rosado-Guzman appeared in Centre County court Thursday morning where he was sentenced to serve 13 to 26 years in state prison.
In August, Rosado-Guzman was found guilty of third-degree murder in the death of Brian Lyncha.
Police arrested Guzman last August after he reportedly stabbed Lyncha during a fight.

Mexican national arrested after alleged trafficking victim texted clues to 911, police say
VENTURA, Calif. (TND) — California police announced Thursday they rescued a 17-year-old girl allegedly trafficked into the U.S. by a Mexican national after she texted clues to authorities.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Gerardo Cruz, who purportedly helped traffic the girl from Mexico more than two months ago, and charged him with human trafficking, forcible rape, sexual penetration with force, lewd acts upon a child and luring.
The girl texted pleas for help to 911 one night last week and provided officers landmarks to identify where she was, according to the sheriff’s department.

'Operation Yellow Jacket:' State officials promote work-zone safety among drivers
As the weather continues to warm up, more road construction projects are popping up across our region.
On Monday, state police, PennDOT and the Highway Safety Network announced “Operation Yellow Jacket,” which will include work-zone speed enforcement in Cameron, Centre, Clearfield and Elk counties.
Troopers will sit "in PennDOT vehicles,” wearing PennDOT issued hardhats and vests, while watching for speeding, tailgating and distracted driving.
It's being done in an effort to reduce the number of work-zone fatalities across the state.
